For Advanced Collegiate and Graduate Players. Ages 18-24.
Students who are accepted to the Fellowship program receive a full scholarship for tuition, room and board. Advanced String Quartet Program students are eligible to apply for financial aid.
June 10 – July 8, 2012
Weeks 1-3:
- Intensive study and performance of movements of a major string quartet
- Private and individual lessons
- Master classes on ensemble and solo work for violin, viola, and cello
- Faculty presentations on different musical styles; How to Practice, Rehearsal Techniques, Communication, Panel Discussions on Lives in Music, faculty performances of other string repertoire such as duos and trios.
Week 4:
- Continuing, refining, and strengthening grasp of the string quartet
- Developing artistic polish: deepening musical interpretation, projecting architectural arc and flow of the work as well as acoustic and artistic expression.
- Performing the complete work in a public performance

- Piano collaboration with public master class performance
- Side-by-side public performance with faculty
- Private lessons
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM OFFERINGS
Students accepted to the Fellowship and Advanced Chamber Music Program will participate in either Piano Collaborative or Side-by-Side programs by indicating their preference on the Additional Program Offerings (APO) Form to be sent after notification of acceptance. Please note that there are 4 openings for Piano Collaboration participation and 12 for the Side-By-Side. Each student will participate in one of these activities.
PROCESSES FOR PIANO COLLABORATION AND SIDE-BY-SIDE WORK WITH PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS (scheduled for the 4th week of camp)
PIANO COLLABORATION
Four students will be selected by the Music Director. Faculty and participants will be notified prior to camp.
Students interested in Piano Collaboration may indicate this preference on the APO Form sent after notification of acceptance. Fellowship and Advanced students who indicate this preference on their APO Form will receive a list of works (sonatas, short pieces) offered by this program. Students interested in coaching with our piano coach and performing in a master class (public performance) must choose one work* from this list and notify the MIMC office no later than May 1.
*Must indicate specific movement if work is a sonata.
SIDE-BY-SIDE PARTICIPATION
Twelve students will be selected by the Music Director. Faculty and participants will be notified prior to camp.
Students interested in coaching and performing with faculty during the final public concert may indicate their preference on the APO Form sent after notification of acceptance. Works involving side-by-side collaboration may include piano quartets, quintets, string sextets, etc.
